4 Story Buildings and 10 Foot Setbacks

Despite the contention made by a founding member, I did not change the allowance of building height from 2 story to 4 story in the mixed use town center, nor did I change the setbacks to allow for 10 foot setbacks in the town center.  That actually happened under Mayor Ralph McGill's (a founding member) leadership in 2015, before I was on the board.

For clarity, in 2014, the planning commission members voted unanimously to support Mayor McGill's efforts. Betty Dick (another founding member) was a member of the MPC and recommended those changes.  At the time of recommendation by the MPC, I was the most junior member on the planning commission.

Specifically, Ordinance 14-21 amended General Commercial by adding new requirements related to the mixed use town center outlined in the comprehensive land use plan update

The pertinent language is as follows:

F. 5. Area Regulations a. Front Yards 1. All principal buildings shall be set back a minimum of ten (10) feet from all property lines and access easements.

F.  9. Height Regulations a. Buildings shall be a minimum of two (2) stories in height or have the appearance, as viewed from all building elevations, of a building that is at least two (2) stories in height. Buildings shall not exceed four (4) stories in height. The minimum height requirement shall apply only to new buildings.

Betty recommended approval of this amendment during the November 20, 2014 MPC meeting.

Ralph voted to approve this amendment for first reading on January 8, 2015

and for second reading on January 22, 2015

Those are the facts.  Ralph McGill and Betty Dick (founding members) did support the effort to bring about the Town Center.
