McFee Road Land Purchase - Accessibility to Parks/Cultural Assets in Farragut

The vast majority of Farragut residents are within a 20 minute walk (one mile) of a Farragut park accessed via a greenway or sidewalk. The area in Farragut that lacks a park is pretty much developed out.  That area includes Willow Creek, a public golf course, and Fox Den Country Club, a private country club with a golf course, swimming pool, tennis courts and other amenities.

Although there may be a few undeveloped parcels in this area, it does not mean these parcels are for sale or would be sold to the Town at reasonable price. Further, any purchase of land for a park should meet the goals laid out in the Park & Recreation Master Plan 2022-2023 which was updated after gathering public input from our Farragut community.

Although I am loathe to divide our community between the north ward and south ward with regard to amenities because for the history of the Board’s decisions dating back to our incorporation in 1980, we have worked to establish a park system and sidewalk/greenway system that serves all of our community without respect to the side of Kingston Pike one lives.  Further, we do not lament the use of our parks by residents in our broader Farragut community which reaches beyond the boundaries of our Town to include Choto, Concord and eastern Loudon County and beyond.  The residents in these areas certainly contribute to our tax base when they shop in our stores and dine in our restaurants. Business activity in our Town is our main source of revenue, we have thrived for more than 40 years without having to adopt a municipal property tax because of robust business activity in our Town.

Nevertheless, the recreational/cultural amenities in the north ward are the following:

  • Mayor Bob Leonard Park
  • Foounder's Park
  • Farragut Community Center
  • West Knox Senior Center
  • Outdoor Classroom
  • Campbell Station Inn and Ralph McGill Plaza

The recreational/cultural amenities in the south ward are the following:

  • Anchor Park
  • McFee Park
  • Town Hall Park
  • Farragut Museum and Plaza
  • Red Mill dam
