Farragut contributes millions to public schools in Farragut!
FUN FACT - The total funds generated in the Town of Farragut that support Knox County Schools on an annual basis is more than
$21 million.
The Farragut community financially supports Knox County Schools through Knox County property taxes, the town's local option sales tax, the mixed drink tax and Town of Farragut grants. Also, the Town of Farragut community supports our public schools in Farragut through the volunteer efforts of the Education Relations Committee, the Introduction to Farragut class and the Public Works department.
Knox County Property Taxes – In FY2022, Knox County collected $31,763,000 in property taxes from properties in Farragut. Knox County distributes property tax in their budget to three funds: 42% to the General Fund, 38% to the General Purpose School Fund and 20% to the Debt Service Fund.
In FY 2022, $12,070,000 of the Knox County property taxes collected from property owners in Farragut went to Knox County’s General Purpose School Fund
Local Option Sales
Tax - The Town of Farragut has a Local Option Sales Tax rate set at
2.25%. Per state law, 50% of local option sales tax collected must be distributed to Knox
County Schools
In FY 2022, the Town of Farragut collected $17,573,000 in local options sales tax,
$8,786,500 went to Knox County’s General Purpose School Fund
Mixed Drink Tax
- The State of Tennessee levies a 15% gross receipts tax on all alcoholic
beverages sold for consumption on premises. The tax is earmarked for education
and local government. Distribution to the local governments depends on several
factors. Per state law, 50% of mixed drink tax goes to schools
In FY 2022, $361,000 was distributed to the Town of Farragut,
$180,500 was remitted to Knox County’s
General Purpose School Fund
Town of Farragut Community Grants – Each year the Board of Mayor and Aldermen awards grants to our public schools. In FY 2023,
$120,000 was distributed amongst our four public schools and the
Farragut High School Education Foundation.

In addition to the financial support provided through various taxes and contributions, the Town also contributes through volunteer activities.
The Town
of Farragut Education Relations Committee which is populated by volunteer
representatives for each of our schools hosts a Principal luncheon in August, provides
a forum through which all the schools can coordinate fundraising dates, collaborates
on fundraising specifics, conducts staff/teacher appreciation outreach, coordinates
with local media and supports Youth fundraising events.
Since 2018, the participants of each Introduction to Farragut class have volunteered their time at one the Farragut public schools to assist our schools in addressing their needs.
Over the
years the Town of Farragut Public Works Department has assisted our
schools in so many ways. More recently,
they donated and spread mulch at FPS; donated and spread mulch at FIS/FMS
picnic tables; aerated FHS baseball field and hauled sand; aerated, top dressed
and spread gravel at the soccer field and hung banners at FHS.
