Outdoor Site Lighting - The rest of the story

  The Town of Farragut was founded in 1980 so we could handle our own planning and zoning. The Town adopted its first comprehensive zoning ordinance 82-11 on March 16, 1982. Ordinance 82-11, Chapter 4., Section XIII. Lighting provided the following restriction: “No exterior lighting shall be oriented in such a manner as to cause direct lighting to be cast onto property zoned residential.” (This language remained unchanged until 1999.) In 1985, the Town acquired property on Watt Road for a future park and began building recreational fields; in 1990, the Town purchased more land to expand the Watt Road Park (now called Mayor Bob Leonard Park (MBLP). By 1999, MBLP had two lighted softball fields, a lighted baseball field, a lighted rectangular field and a lighted sand volleyball complex. Anchor Park Remains a Dark Park

  The Town of Farragut was founded in 1980 so we could handle our own planning and zoning. The Town adopted its first comprehensive zoning ordinance 82-11 on March 16, 1982. In Ordinance 82-11, Chapter 4., Section XIII. Lighting provided the following restriction: “No exterior lighting shall be oriented in such a manner as to cause direct lighting to be cast onto property zoned residential.” Page 99  (This language remained unchanged in the Town's zoning ordinance until 1999.) In 1983, the Town purchased 9 acres on Turkey Creek Road for a future park (Anchor Park). In 1984, the Town dedicated Anchor Park which included a softball field, a soccer field, a walking trail and exercise stations. At the time of the park’s construction, Lake Haven Park subdivision was the only existing subdivision in the Anchor Park area. "Tourism" in Farragut

       Tourists are defined as a people travelling to and staying in places outside their usual environment for leisure, business or other purposes.  Tourists stay in hotels. The Town of Farragut has 9 hotels and a 10 th one planned.   Farragut hotels have high occupancy rates. Whether one wants tourism or not, Farragut has it and its not going away.  Farragut, as a part of the greater Knoxville region, has been a destination for tourists since 1982 when the first hotel opened in the Town of Farragut. The Town of Farragut is a high quality residential community. That is all we have ever strived to be...a high quality residential community. The Town of Farragut has had tourism since 1982 when the first hotel opened in our Town. We have had tourists amongst us since then. We have never strived to be Gatlinburg or Downtown Knoxville and we are not striving to be Gatlinburg or Downtown Knoxville now. Most of the tourists staying in Farragut hotels...
